Qatari Music Affairs Center selected to join Unesco International Council of Music

DOHA: As a step towards developing music in the country, Qatari Music Affairs Center announced that it has been selected to join the Unesco International Council of Music — the first governmental body to join this Council.

This achievement is a step towards supporting Qatari artisets and musicians who work diligently to develop their musical abilities. The election was based on its commitment to the five musical rights. These are represented by the right of children and adults to “express themselves freely in music, to learn languages and skills in music, access to music through participation, listening, creativity and information and the right of all musical artists to develop their skills.”

Such a step also aims to enhance the national identity foundations by developing cultural activities that culturally raise societal participation.

Besides, it also enables discovering and nurturing artistic talents, increasing cultural production that enhances the national identity, and organising events that improve cultural communication with resident communities.
